Tonight, the Philadelphia City Planning Commission will unveil the final designs for the upcoming American Street protected bike lane.
The last public information about this project noted that it would be Philadelphia’s first center-lane, raised protected bike lane (see draft above), along the 84-foot wide roadway in North Philadelphia.
A meeting was held last summer to discuss best practices for the future lane.
Members and supporters of the Bicycle Coalition showed up and made sure the city understood our focus was on a protected bike way that accommodates all people who use American Street for transportation purposes.
Earlier this year, Councilwoman Maria Quinones Sanchez introduced an ordinance OKing the project, which made it official.
Now, the city will make their plans public for what American Street is set to look like when the project is done.
